If you just made a new site and sitting there waiting for someone(traffic) to come and visit, why not try getting more targeted traffic yourself?
Getting more exposure for your website yourself is more useful than depending on search engine traffic. i know, search engine brings in targetted traffic. But one thing! Seriously, you can't rank well on new site to compete against big big site unless you did some SEO like keyword optimization which is far more complicated than you've expected. The answer of course is forum! just find more RELATED forum or message board and post some of the topic you already have in your site. You have to choose the right category to get targetted traffic. For example, if your niche are fitness, and your site have lots of thing regarding fitness, just go to health forum and find fitness category and post your stuff in it with a LINK to your site. Because, particular forums visitor are all like-minded, which means they have the same interest.
Example, let's say you want to sell your stamp collection, if you post your stamp collections for sale in stamp selling/trading section of the forum and provide a link to your main stamp site, your stamps will definitely start selling fast enough. As
Besides, for some forums, they have no "nofollow" tag. Which means search spider will crawl to your site with the link you post, thus you can get better page rank with the "keyword" you use in the post.
This is especially effective if you post on such big forum that have millions of visitor perday. your post will definitely brings lots of visitor to your website. Do it to as many forum as you can.
